Meet our new Google Cloud Engineer – Abdelkarim Boujida!

Keep calm and look at the mirror

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” – Steve Jobs

This is what I was asking myself lately. In the beginning the answer was complicated, as there were things I liked in my daily job. And there was also a “but…”.

So I began to define things I liked and disliked in my former job. There is one thing I like very much: informatics. I needed to define what is informatics for me and what triggered my interest when I began to learn about informatics and programming.

For me informatics is about innovation, creating awesome things, automating processes, fast information exchange and also define the future. When you think about the future you see new unknown things realised by engineering and informatics. It also means ameliorations, changes, redefining things, thinking out of the box and ‘revolution’ in a good way.

I always wanted to be part of that mysterious fun thing, called the future.

My imagination went very deep (or high in the cloud?), but when I looked back, I found myself working in an environment where the most important thing is to run the business. Trying to fix the things that exist by doing repetitive tasks, without looking for a real solution, even when solutions are presented. Trying to catch up with new technologies by using old ones. Making the same mistake over and over again. I worked with young talented programmers, limited by conservative thinking while using such a powerful tool: informatics.

Why did I make the move to Fourcast?

When I was introduced to Fourcast, the first thing I noticed was the pursuit of innovation.

During the interview Valon said to me: “We teach our customers how to change their way of working, using modern technologies in all facets of informatics. These proven solutions are there to pick and be used.”

When I heard about the young talented forward thinking team using the newest trends in informatics provided by Google, I was very happy to join.

So who am I?

I am Abdelkarim, 34 years old, born and raised in Leuven. I’m very excited to work at Fourcast as Java and AngularJs developer. My main focus now is to catch up with the knowledge about Google Cloud Platform and helping the team realising awesomeness in the current projects. There are some fun projects in the pipeline about Machine Learning. I am ready for the challenge!
