Teamleader embraces sign-in simplicity for all its business apps with Google Cloud Identity

The company was looking for an alternative solution which would make user management even easier & the user experience even better. Teamleader is now using Google Cloud Identity (GCI) and it has heavily improved the user experience. End users can now simply login with their Google Account on all their business applications.

About Teamleader

Teamleader is a CRM, invoicing and project management tool that makes work easier for 10,000+ SMEs. Bringing CRM, project management and invoicing together with an intuitive software solution, Teamleader enables your team to collaborate, organise and build your business.

The company’s HQ is in Ghent, with a workforce of about 150 employees.

The Problem

Teamleader has rapidly grown from a startup to a scale up. As a tech company, there are no people in charge of IT. They solely rely on SaaS applications to run their business. The amount of internal applications the company is using has grown over the years so that managing accounts and passwords became overly complex.

Users were managed separately in each application, and each of these applications required a different username and password. This required a lot of management, time and effort from the company’s workforce.

That’s why Teamleader chose to implement Okta as a solution a couple of years ago, to serve as an SSO within the company. However, the experience of logging in with Okta wasn’t perfect.

The Goal

Teamleader was looking for an alternative solution which would make user management even easier and the user experience even better for everyone working at the company.

Solution

Since many customers are looking for an SSO solution and Google has a very strong authentication mechanism, Google started to invest a lot in Google Cloud Identity (GCI). A free version of GCI is part of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and can serve as an SSO solution for most SaaS applications. The product can even take care of the (de-)provisioning of users.

After analysing the use cases, Teamleader came to the conclusion that Google Cloud Identity covered all their use cases.

Together with Devoteam G Cloud as a partner, we started a track where we configured all SaaS applications used by Teamleader on GCI and replaced the Okta implementation by this solution in less than 2 weeks.

The Result

Teamleader is now using GCI and it has heavily improved the user experience. End users can now simply login with their Google Account on all their business applications.

The implementation of GCI reduced an enormous amount of complexity of managing passwords and therefore reduces the overhead for all application owners.

Last but not least, GCI is part of the G Suite subscription and therefore saves Teamleader a significant amount of money.
