Meet Kevin Dhëmbi, a Cloud Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud

Discover the story of one of the brightest stars of the Devoteam G Cloud team in Prague.

Sharp, ambitious, ready to tackle any challenge and always striving to perfect himself and learn more about the world of the cloud. Kevin Dhëmbi, who moved from his native Tirana to Prague in order to attend university, joined Devoteam G Cloud right after graduating and is already going big.

How did you become a Cloud Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud?
After receiving my degree in Computing, with a specialisation in Networking and Cyber Security, I embarked on a journey of continuous learning and self-improvement. Aside from my formal education, I dedicated a significant time to self-study. I proactively sought out various resources to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and further enhance my abilities. Recognizing the growing importance of Cloud Computing and its potential for the future, I decided to expand my knowledge and skills in this interesting field.

I excitedly applied to G Cloud University which became my gateway to Devoteam G Cloud and I couldn’t be happier about starting my career here.

How does a typical day look like for you?
I start my day with standups to align on our tasks with my team. Later, if there are any unclarities, we tackle those during syncs. As part of my role, I work with Terraform for infrastructure modernization, focusing on automating infrastructure provisioning and management. Additionally, I have been heavily involved in Kubernetes and its features, exploring container orchestration, deployment strategies, and scalability options.

In addition to my daily tasks, I prioritise self-development and continuous learning. I dedicate a portion of my time each day to studying for various certifications related to cloud platforms, infrastructure management, and Kubernetes. Staying updated with the latest advancements in these areas helps me improve my skills and contribute effectively to our projects.

Are you currently working on anything interesting?
Absolutely! I am currently involved in the Kubernetes project aimed at modernising the infrastructure of a bank. As a team, we’re focused on delivering high-impact services and software development solutions, with a particular emphasis on implementing configuration management and seamless integration. This project has been a huge learning experience for me, allowing me to put my skills into practice as well as gain valuable insights.

The best part of my job is seeing the tangible results of my work being implemented to production. It is great to see how my work contributes to the success of the project and the overall digital transformation journey.

What is the most challenging part of being a Cloud Engineer?
Keeping up with the IT trends, as they are changing rapidly. Staying updated through certifications, conferences, and active engagement in the team’s Slack channel, where team members share their valuable opinions on Cloud-related topics, helps me keep pace with the latest insights, trends and advancements in the Cloud industry.

What was your personal highlight of being a G Clouder so far?
It was definitely passing the Google Cloud Professional Security Engineer Certification. This certification holds immense significance in the realm of cloud security, validating expertise in securing applications, data, and infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). After passing it, I had the opportunity to organise a study group for my international colleagues. The certification has had a profoundly positive impact on my career, boosting my reputation, unlocking new project possibilities, and empowering me to implement robust security practices within my organization, thereby contributing to its overall security posture.

What is your advice for future Cloud Engineers?
Try to work on as many self-study projects as possible. That way, you will stay on top of new technologies that are getting developed each day.
