About Lafarge Holcim
Lafarge Holcim, born from the merger of the two major groups Lafarge and Holcim, manages several thousand sites around the world: quarries, processing plants, warehouses and offices. And this in diverse and sometimes risky areas.
The Security team, which commissioned the application, ensures the safety of their 70,000 employees and property at Lafarge Holcim.
The Problem
The security team had no tool that allowed them to reference all sites and the important information associated with them (number of employees, presence of money on site, date of last security visist, etc.).
Each country security manager managed this information, with their own tools.
The Objective
In order to have a global vision and more accurate reporting, they needed a single, central tool.
The Solution
Devoteam G Cloud was recommended as a Maps partner to carry out the development of this application. The first version was defined at the beginning of 2016 for a first production launch in September 2016.

Methodology
The application is deployed on App Engine (Google Cloud) for the web server part. Data is stored on Cloud SQL. Access to the application is only allowed to certain people whose email address is entered in a spreadsheet, updated by the Security team.
Simply adding an email address from the Lafarge Holcim domain to this spreadsheet gives access to the application for the user in question.
On the browser side, the application is developed in Angular JS (the most powerful Javascript framework at the time). It is responsive because the mobile use was requested from the beginning. It is translated into 3 languages (French, English, Spanish) and is compatible with most web browsers (including the latest versions of Internet Explorer).
The Result
A single source of truth for information for the Security Team:
- data that is more easily updated
- data that is easier to share (better communication between the various security players at LH)
- data that is more secure thanks to user role management
