Could you introduce yourself briefly and explain your role as a Presales Data Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud?

I am Alberto González Gómez, passionate about the world of computer science and technological innovation. I studied at the Carlos III University and then I specialized with a master’s degree in Data Engineering.

Currently I am a Presales Data Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud. In this position, my mission is to listen carefully to the needs of our customers and propose innovative solutions based on Google Cloud technology to help them optimize their processes and make more informed decisions.

What is a typical day like for a Presales Data Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud?

A typical day for me usually includes meetings with clients, where I listen carefully to their needs and prepare customized offerings to meet them. Variety is key, as I find myself tackling everything from more traditional data projects (sourcing from different sources, unifying the data and presenting it in a BI) to innovative proposals that leverage the power of generative AI to streamline tasks.

Could you share some examples of real projects you have worked on as a Presales Data Engineer?

Sure! Recently, I was involved in an interesting project that aimed to empower business users to make data-driven decisions. We evaluated the client’s existing architecture and proposed end-to-end solutions using Google Cloud tools to meet their specific needs. Another fascinating project was a proof of concept that sought to extract text from the audio of a video and then perform analytics based on that text.

How do you collaborate with other teams or departments within Devoteam G Cloud?

Collaboration is key at Devoteam G Cloud. I work closely with our sales team to thoroughly understand customer needs and expectations. In addition, I maintain constant communication with my colleagues on the data team to leverage their experience on similar projects and ensure our solutions are robust and efficient.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a Presales Data Engineer at Devoteam G Cloud or in general?

“Keep up with the latest technology trends and continually train on Google Cloud tools. Versatility and adaptability are key in this role, so make sure you have a solid understanding of a variety of data and cloud related tools and technologies. Also, the cloud is continually changing, so the value of training and certification in your professional development is very important.”

The Path to Specialization: Google Cloud Certifications

  • Associate Cloud Engineer – Google Cloud
  • Professional Cloud Database Engineer
  • Professional Data Engineer

Soon, I am working to obtain the Professional Machine Learning Engineer certification to continue growing professionally in this field.

How did you get to this position?

When I finished my degree, I was very interested in the potential of the cloud and Google Cloud. During my final year project, I had the opportunity to work with tools such as BigQuery and Cloud Functions, which allowed me to develop solutions more efficiently, without worrying so much about deployments and associated costs.

After college, I started working at a consulting firm that offered initial training in Google Cloud and the opportunity to participate in specific projects using this technology, which allowed me to continue exploring and developing my expertise in this field.

It was later, in July 2022, when I joined Devoteam G Cloud, as a Presales Data Engineer, my current position, where I continue to explore and develop my expertise in Google Cloud.

What is the best thing about your job?

What I enjoy most is the diversity I find in my day-to-day work. Each project presents unique challenges and gives me the opportunity to constantly learn. In addition, at Devoteam G Cloud, we highly value the work environment and collaboration between colleagues. I am surrounded by a young and highly specialized team, which makes for a great atmosphere.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job as a Data Engineer and how do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges is translating complex technical concepts into a language that our clients can understand. It goes a bit hand in hand with the above, as projects may require different tools and it is crucial to know them thoroughly. To overcome these challenges, I constantly keep myself updated on the latest Google Cloud technologies and resources, taking full advantage of partner resources such as Google Partner Advantage and Cloud Skills Boost. In addition, I work closely with other teams within Devoteam G Cloud to ensure our solutions are accessible and effective for our customers.

Can you describe a project (or the current one) you have worked on as a Data Engineer and the steps you took to complete it?

Lately, I have been involved in several projects and prototypes related to DocumentAI. This tool allows us to extract fields from PDFs with unstructured information, such as bid documents or product sheets. It is exciting to see how generative AI has significantly improved these use cases in the last year, opening up new possibilities that were previously unthinkable.

What is your best moment as a G Clouder?

As part of my job, I spend a lot of time preparing deals for our clients. The best moment is when an important offer materializes and becomes a successful project. And, of course, celebrating with my colleagues!

How do you set the pace in your work?

My day-to-day is pretty intense, but I love it. I have an organizational routine to keep on top of all the projects and prioritize according to urgency and importance.

Go big (GO BIG): what does it mean to you?

Going big for me is aiming for the top in everything I do, both professionally and personally. It’s constantly challenging myself, learning from every experience and contributing to the success of our team and our clients in the best way possible.
