Meet Jeanette, Denmark’s results-driven Sales Shark

Jeanette Sillemann is an experienced Sales Manager with a 15-year background in sales, with experience selling SaaS solutions, she joined Devoteam G Cloud in February 2023. With a focus on creating value through strategic partnerships, Jeanette brings knowledge and a strong dedication to understanding clients’ needs and delivering results.

Building strong relationships with Google

One of the key aspects of my job is to create and maintain strong relationships with clients. This involves cross-functional collaboration, both within the organisation and externally. At Devoteam G Cloud, where we set the pace, move together and go big, we are fortunate to be one of Google’s largest partners, opening doors to exciting collaborations and initiatives. I actively contact leads provided by Google and our marketing department, while also reaching out to potential clients on my own. 

Additionally, we organise events in partnership with Google to engage with new and potential clients, such as the G Cloud Day and the Knowledge Sharing Group. These are events where you can find sessions on topics such as Data & Analytics, AI, ML, IT Infrastructure, Application Modernisation and Sustainability hosted by our experts and  Google. 

This constant interaction keeps my days vibrant and dynamic, as I participate in meetings with both potential and existing clients, setting up new projects and discussing future strategies.

How is collaboration at Devoteam G Cloud?

Collaboration is at the heart of our work at Devoteam G Cloud. I work with various teams internationally, ensuring efficient planning and assisting whenever needed. I also collaborate with other sales teams where we inspire each other, share knowledge and contribute to an overall understanding of the customer’s business. This collaborative spirit enables us to collectively understand the bigger picture and meet the needs of our clients.

The best aspects of the job

As we develop businesses, optimise strategies, and collaborate with driven personalities within our organisation and Google, we work in an inspiring environment. The unique collaboration with Google’s Customer Engineers and Field Sales Representatives, stands out as a special aspect of my work, offering opportunities to learn from and engage with one of the world’s leading technology companies.

What does your day-to-day look like as a Sales Manager?  

My daily responsibilities as a Sales Manager include creating strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring efficient planning, and closing deals. I engage in diverse activities such as contacting leads, driving sales promotions, and participating in inspiration meetings and workshops with potential clients to define upcoming strategic projects. It is crucial to listen first. You need a thorough understanding of whom the customer is, what their business is about, and what their pain points are. This will help you find the right solution to fit the right business challenge. 

Jeanette’s proudest moment

One of the most memorable moments I experienced as a G Clouder was when we initiated the Knowledge Sharing Group. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from our customers reinforced the value they gained from attending the event where we presented it. This group provided a platform for clients to share knowledge, best practices, seek guidance, and connect with like-minded individuals. 

It was only possible thanks to Google’s support and dedication to see the project succeed, as it was the first group of this kind launched in Denmark.

When do the Experts Step in?

Collaborating with the Danish team involves planning depending on the project and customer. Initially, I try to handle as much as possible on my own before involving consultants. For example, on a proof-of-concept (PoC), I had three meetings before bringing in a Data Engineer, depending on the specific use case, technicalities, and the extent to which I can contribute. I know that when I need support, my team supports me 100%. We have a strong collaboration with a common goal of delivering the best result for our customers.  

Challenges and overcoming them

  1. One of the main challenges is the speed of decision-making, which doesn’t always necessarily align with the pace required for successful outcomes. Continuous follow-up and numerous calls are necessary to ensure important decisions are made promptly.
  2. Another challenge lies in ensuring client commitment, as it often requires persistent efforts and active dialogue.
  3. Furthermore, the steep learning curve and technical aspects associated with the Danish market demand continuous improvement and understanding.

Embracing the 10X aspect of Google’s culture

Embracing the 10x aspect of Google’s culture comes naturally to me through my personality and work ethic. As a highly energised person, I need to use energy to get energy, which helps me thrive in this culture.

As a runner and a parent of three children, my spare time is limited, but I utilise my energy to fuel my dedication and drive towards achieving goals. Being results-driven is an intrinsic part of my approach.

Setting the pace

I continuously set goals for myself and strive to achieve them. This energy translates into action, as I engage with stakeholders, understand their motivations, and ask pertinent questions to expedite the learning and understanding process.

In a word, my job is dynamic.

The fast-paced nature, the goals to be achieved, the people to meet, the calls to be made, the meetings to be held, the contracts, and the follow-ups to ensure growth and success make my role ever-evolving.

Advice for aspiring Sales Sharks like you!

If you are aspiring to advance in your Sales career, and are struggling with the responsibilities and pressure, I have a few key pieces of advice. 

  1. Hang in there, as the learning curve can be steep. Take time to listen to the stories and projects shared by potential clients and colleagues. The feedback received during these interactions helps shape a deeper understanding of the business and better align our services with client needs. 
  2. Don’t hesitate to ask for help and feedback, as the entire team is willing to support one another and has likely faced similar situations. 
  3. Finally, understanding all aspects of your company is the key to comprehending the business itself, which will give you the necessary knowledge to deliver the best results.
